About the work

Juan José Calarco  is from Argentina. He is a musician and sound artist who uses material from urban and natural environments to create his work. Juan work ranges from documentation of harbours and water canals to complex sound topographies of cities at night. His interest focusses on the narrative and emotional content of the sound matter. He also works as a curator for the Portuguese based netlabel Impulsive Habitat.
For this project, Juan spent three days at Quequén Lighthouse on the South Atlantic coast documenting the lighthouse structure and its aural relationship with the natural surroundings. His approach for this project will be to explore the lighthouse space by considering both its cultural meaning upon the landscape as well as a sonic entity of its own.
